We do have a delicious recipe for you today, Mashed Potato Patties. The leftover mashed potato patties that my mom made are a great side dish and are craved at our house. When making mashed potatoes, “experts”, say one potato for every two people. But I always count at least one potato per person with an extra two to three. No wonder we are faced with mounds and mounds of leftover mashed potatoes.
Mashed Potato Patty Recipe:
Ingredients:
- 4 cups mashed potatoes
- 1 egg
- green onion, sliced
- 1 cup cheddar cheese, grated
- 1 cup flour
- Butter
- salt, to taste
- black pepper, to taste
- chives, for garnish, optional
Equipment Needed
- Potato Ricer
- Large Bowl
- Large Skillet
How to make the Best Mashed Potato Patties
Instructions:

Mash potatoes with a potato ricer and combine with onion, egg, cheese, flour in a large bowl

Scoop up 1/3 cup of the mixture, shape into balls and roll each into flour and flattened into patties

Melt butter in large skillet over medium heat

Fry each patty in the skillet about 5 minutes each side until golden brown, salt, and pepper to taste

Snip fresh chives with herb scissors and garnish prior to serving
NOTE: If you initially made chunky potatoes or our Crazy Good Rustic Mashed Potatoes you will need to mash the potatoes a little more prior to mixing up this recipe. The easiest way to do this is to use a potato ricer, it’s not that expensive and it can really save you in time and effort.

NOTHING beats the love of a potato meal. I agree, all things potato taste good! I have created such recipes often and, ALWAYS very tasty. NO wasting of potatoes around my home. My parents grew them, and we kept a family of thirteen alive and strong. 🙂

Love potato patties
I can't wait to try your Potato Patties recipe! Nearly 40 years ago we knew a wonderfully unique German lady who shared her family secret to Potato Pancakes… raw red potatoes grated potatoes (about 1 large per person) mix in a rounded tbsp. of flour, salt and pepper to taste. place about 1/2 of that mix on one side of your griddle and using a fork press and spread mixture to form a very flat cake. Fry in butter and olive oil. repeat with other side of grill and grill each side to golden brown. Remove to a pate ande serve immediately. Grate and prepare next potatoe pancake in the same way until all hungry stomachs are
satisfied. Delicious with sour cream, suarkraut, or apple sauce,:
Mouthwatering and now know how to use left over potatoes, besides bubble and squeak. Have made potato cake or pancake with raw potato which is popular. These patties are great for picnics also.
