I love the simple natural look of farmhouse beads strung carelessly over a pile of books or wrapped around an old glass vase. And these would be gorgeous used as farmhouse decor, either painted or plain wood. Also, they will make a sweet little touch to a bottle of wine for your fall hostess gifts!
What you need for these DIY Napkin rings:
Supplies:
Equipment needed:
- Small paintbrush
- Wooden skewer
- Scissors
- Hot glue gun
How to Make a Wood Bead Napkin Ring:
Slide beads over a wooden skewer leaving at least a 1/2” of space between each one
Apply one coat of orange craft paint all over the beads, be sure to cover it entirely, allow to dry until paint is no longer tacky. Once dry, add another coat to give it nice solid finish, allow to dry again.
To make your beads easier to string on the twine dip the end in glue and smooth it flat, allow it to harden, I like to do this with a bit of hot glue because it dries quickly. Just add a dab to the end, wait for it to cool enough to touch and shape the tip into a point. Slide beads over the end of the twine, use 12-15 depending on the size of your napkins. Leave 3-4 inches of excess twine on either end.
Make a tassel by wrapping twine around 3 closed fingers 3 times, tie it off about a ½” from one end, snip the loops on the other end, add a dab of hot glue to secure it after wrapping.
Tie one end of your string of beads through the tied off the loop of the tassel.
Then bring the other end around and tie it there as well. Add a tiny dab of hot glue to each knot if you feel it needs it to secure them, then trim off the excess string.
Slip these Farmhouse Wood Bead Napkin Rings over your Fall or Thanksgiving napkins for a little pop of color on a neutral farmhouse table.
