And we made things easier by buying pizza dough and using a pizza cutter to slice the dough into thin strips to make these Halloween snacks.
These fun Mummy Hot Dogs are hot dog weiners wrapped in strips of store-bought pizza dough. These ghoulish hot dogs are great for Halloween Parties or just having a fun lunch or dinner and are one of our favorite Halloween snacks.
How to Make Mummy Hot Dogs:
What you will need for these pizza dough hot dogs:
Roll out the pizza dough out on a dough mat until very thin. Use a pizza cutter and cut dough into very thin strips. Wrap one strip of dough around each hot dog covering the entire dog but leaving 1/2 inch uncovered for the face. Arrange on a lightly greased baking sheet. Whisk together egg and water and brush over dough. Bake at 350° for 14 to 16 minutes, or until golden brown. Use the mustard or ketchup to dot eyes on each mummy dog with a toothpick to form eyes. Serve.
Easiest ways to make these hot dogs wrapped in pizza dough:
After cutting the tiny strips of dough we debated on the easiest way to wrap these Halloween hot dogs. So my hubby used a wooden skewer and he poked the skewer through his hot dog. And then he wrapped the dough strips on the hot dog as he turned the skewer slowly wrapping the dough onto the hot dog.
Have you noticed that guys being guys, they always have to use some kind of tool? And my hubby is a total guy, even though I had him helping me make Mummy Hot Dogs on a Saturday afternoon.
Or you could use the old-school method as I did. Wrap the tiny strips of the dough round and round the hot dogs leaving a place for the face. Either way worked great and with little mustard eyes, these Mummy Hot Dogs were very scary indeed. But of course, you could use ketchup for those eyes also, whatever pleases your little goblins.
We loved the different taste and texture of the pizza dough versus other refrigerated dough for these Halloween hot dogs. And it was easier to cut into those very narrow strips making more surface to be browned.
These Mummy Hot Dogs were fun to make and to eat for us big kids so there are not just Halloween snacks for kids. In fact, they were total guy foodies after all, who knew?
