How to have a Perfect Prime Rib:
What’s in this Prime Rib Rub Recipe:
Ingredients for the rub:
for a 3 pound Standing Rib Roast (allow for about 1/2 pound per person)
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 3 Tablespoons Cracked Black Pepper
- 2 Tablespoons Kosher Salt
- 3 Tablespoons Season Salt
- 1 Pinch of Brown Sugar
Instructions:

Combine dry seasonings with the garlic in a small bowl. Blend well

Rinse meat and pat dry

Rub seasons into and all over meat generously

Place in the large roaster with a rack. Do not cover or add water

3-5 hours before serving, place rib roast in a preheated 375-degree oven and bake for 1 hour (for medium rare) or 1 1/2 hours (for medium)

Turn oven OFF but do NOT open the oven door. Roast may be in oven up to 2 hours and DO Not open oven door

About 40 minutes before serving turn oven to 300 degrees, cook for 40 minutes

Remove from oven and let rest prior to carving.

I've never made prime rib. Ever. Was always too intimidated--wouldn't want to screw up such a lovely hunk o meat. But I think I could do this--although not opening the oven door would be a challenge for me. I'm a peeker! Like your tip about the bone. Makes sense!
