We use refrigerated biscuits for this homemade sausage country gravy casserole to make it easier without losing any flavor. 

This easy biscuits and gravy breakfast casserole recipe is loaded with the deliciousness of sausage gravy and biscuits, is guaranteed to make everyone’s morning brighter. Not only is it mouthwateringly good, but it’s also super easy to whip together – perfect for those busy mornings. The biscuits come out of the casserole bathed in rich sausage gravy, making every bite a heavenly delight.

With homemade sausage gravy poured over refrigerated biscuits, this mouthwatering dish is perfect for a hearty, country-style breakfast.  Easily feed the entire family or a crowd with this simple and delicious recipe.  We just made a couple of pans for Labor day weekend when all the kids and grandkids were here at the Ranch.  And it was cleaned out, everyone loved it.   So it’s a win win for us.  It’s easy to serve plus the biscuit pieces come out of the casserole loaded with sausage gravy.   Even for a country girl like me, this is now my go to recipe for a biscuits and gravy breakfast. 

 

Biscuit Gravy Breakfast Casserole Ingredients

You will need:

  • 2 cans refrigerated biscuits, cut into bite-size pieces
  • 1 pound pork breakfast sausage
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 1/3 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon black pepper
  • 4 cups milk

How to make this biscuits and gravy breakfast casserole:

Start your breakfast casserole by preheating your oven to 350 degrees F.   And spray a 9×13 baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.

Spread half of the cut up biscuit pieces in the bottom of the pan in an even layer.  Then place in preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes, until the biscuits are golden brown. Remove from oven and set aside.

While the biscuits are baking, brown the pork sausage in a large skillet.  After the sausage is cooked, transfer it to a paper towel-lined plate to drain while your are making the country gravy.

Place the butter in the skillet with the sausage drippings and stir until the butter is melted.   Add the flour and stir to mix.  Continue to cook until the mixture begins to bubble, stirring constantly.

After your flour mixture has thickened, add the milk and whisk to combine all the ingredients. Reduce heat to low and simmer until the gravy is thick while stirring occasionally.

After the gravy has thickened, remove the skillet from heat and stir in the sausage.

Pour your sausage gravy mixture over the baked biscuits, making sure to cover them completely.

Place the remaining biscuit pieces on the top of your casserole and return the pan to the oven.

Bake this biscuit gravy breakfast casserole at 350° F for 15 to 20 minutes, until the biscuits on top are golden brown. Remove from oven.

Serve and enjoy.  This biscuits and gravy breakfast casserole will feed 8 people.  And you can make it a complete breakfast serving it with either scrambled eggs and fresh fruit or both.
