This DIY recipe box is super simple and makes a cute little farmhouse recipe box. This dollar tree recipe box is inexpensive and makes a thoughtful gift for Mother’s Day or any occasion.
It’s always nice to have a recipe box sitting out on the counter to hold all those 3 X 5 recipe cards we have collected over the years. This farmhouse style recipe box is the perfect size to hold this months menu and doesn’t take up much room on your counter. We love all things Farmhouse and we had fun collecting several different farmhouse crafts and featuring them on one post. And this DIY farmhouse recipe box will be added to our DIY Farmhouse looks on a budget Post.

This little dollar tree recipe box craft is good for adults or children but younger children might need help in rubbing the letters. And you could personalize this by including a name above the “Recipes” letters such as “Evelyn’s Recipes”. We found these rub on letters at Dollar Tree but I know not every Dollar Tree has them. I did notice Amazon does have several different styles to choose from.
Supplies needed for this DIY Recipe Box:
- Dollar Tree small wooden box
- Waverly White Chalk Paint
- Paintbrush
- Rub On Black Letters
- Rub On designs
- Scissors
- Blank Recipe Cards-Vintage Mason Jar Design
How to Make this Farmhouse Recipe Box:
Apply 2 coats of the Waverly white chalk paint making sure to allow plenty of time to dry between coats.
After the crate is completely dry cut out the letters and designs of your choosing.
Lay your your letters and designs in the order you will apply them to the recipe box.
Place each letter on your farmhouse recipe box, centering them and lining them up evenly. Rub using a firm, smooth pressure with something like a clean, dry, Popsicle stick or you could use your fingernail if you are careful.
The longer these rub on letters set they more durable they are but you might wish to seal this with a clear coat of acrylic. Now you can fill them with 3 X 5 blank or personalized recipe cards. It’s also a nice touch to handwrite a few of your family family recipes and add to this when giving it as a gift.
