We took our refrigerator sugar cookie recipe and added an extra little step to make it sparkle. These special treats look like a pretty glitter cookies and they are super easy to make. In fact if you don’t have time to make them in one day, you could mix up the dough and either place it in the refrigerator to bake later. Or it will be fine for 2-3 months in the freezer.

What is in Red Glitter Cookies:
Ingredients:
- 3/4 cup unsalted butter, room temperature
- 3/4 cup white sugar
- 1 large egg, room temperature
- 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
- 2 and 1/4 cups all-purpose flour, plus more for rolling
- 1/2 teaspoon baking powder
- 1/2 teaspoon cream of tartar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- Red sugar crystals
How to make Glitter Cookies:

In a large bowl, beat together the butter and sugar for about 2 minutes until light and fluffy. Add the egg and vanilla extract and beat until well combined. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cream of tartar and salt. Add the flour mixture into the butter mixture and beat until completely combined.
Knead the sugar cookie dough for 1 minute and then roll into a log shape and wrap with plastic wrap. And refrigerate it for at least one hour. Then preheat oven to 350° F and line two cookie sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Pour the red sugar crystals onto a dinner plate. Remove the cookie log from the refrigerator and unwrap. Roll the sugar cookie log in the red sugar crystals, and then use a sharp knife to cut into 1/2” thick cookies. And press each cookie into the sugar crystals to coat them completely.
Place the cut cookies on the prepared cookie sheets and bake for 8-12 minutes, until just slightly golden. Remove and allow to cool on cooling racks.
